What is Wegovy?

Wegovy (semaglutide) is a prescription-only, once-weekly injection for weight management in adults, used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more activity.2

A clinician reviews your assessment before anything is prescribed, and is there if you have questions along the way.

How does Wegovy work?

  • It mimics a gut hormone. Semaglutide works like GLP-1, a hormone your gut releases after eating that tells your brain you've had enough.2
  • Hunger turns down. For many people that means less hunger between meals and feeling full sooner, so eating less takes less effort.
  • Digestion slows. It slows how quickly your stomach empties, so food stays with you longer and portions start to feel smaller on their own.
  • Your changes do the rest. It supports changes to how you eat and move rather than replacing them. When treatment stopped in trials, much of the weight tended to return.3

How do I use Wegovy?

  1. Pick your day. Inject on the same day each week, at any time, with or without food.2
  2. Choose a spot. Your stomach, thigh, or upper arm. Use a different spot each week.
  3. Inject. Follow the leaflet for your pen step by step. Your clinician can talk you through the first one.
  4. Store it right. Keep pens in the fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze them. Your pen's leaflet says how long it can be kept out of the fridge.

Missed a dose? If it's within 5 days, take it as soon as you remember. If it's been longer, skip it and take your next one on your usual day.2

How does Wegovy compare with other options?

Figures are average weight loss at the highest dose in each medicine's main trial, alongside diet and activity. They come from different trials in different people, so they aren't a direct ranking. The one direct comparison: when tirzepatide (Mounjaro) and injected semaglutide (Wegovy) were tested head to head over 72 weeks, average weight loss was 20.2% and 13.7%.7

Wegovy FAQs

Is Manova a proper clinic, or a website?

Both. We’re a CQC-registered clinic that happens to live online. Every prescription is signed off by a registered clinician, not an algorithm.

Will it turn up in a branded box at my office?

No. Plain brown packaging, no Manova branding, no clue what’s inside. Sent to a home or pickup address, your call.

What if the clinician says no?

Then they say no, and you’re not charged: the hold on your card is released. They might suggest a safer alternative, more tests, or refer you back to your GP. We’d rather lose a customer than push the wrong pill.

Am I locked into a contract?

No. There’s no contract and no minimum term. Your plan renews monthly (or every 3 or 6 months on a longer plan), and you can cancel it yourself from your account at any time. Once it’s cancelled you won’t be charged again.

How is this different from going to my GP?

It isn’t, really. The same medicines, prescribed by registered clinicians to the same standards. We’re just faster to get hold of, and a lot less awkward to talk to about the things on this page.
